Abstract: Fishing vessels permitted to participate in federally permitted fisheries in the Northeast Region are required to submit logbooks containing catch and effort information about their fishing trips. Participants in the tilefish and open access herring fisheries are also required to make reports on the catch through an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system. In addition, vessels fishing under the Exempted Fishing Permit (EFP) or Mid-Atlantic Research Set-Aside (RSA) programs are required to submit research catch information through the IVR system. This change requires vessel owners/operators with a charter or party permit for species managed by a MAFMC FMP, when on a trip carrying passengers for hire, to submit required vessel trip reports (VTRs) by electronic means. Electronic submission is currently optional for these vessels and requires submission within 48 hours.after entering port following the end of a fishing trip.
