Abstract: ICE collects this information to determine the suitability of a state or local law enforcement agency as a prospective partner with ICE under Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Section 287(g) of the INA, codified at 8 U.S.C. § 1357(g) (1996), as amended by the Homeland Security Act of 2002, Public Law 107-296, authorizes the Secretary of DHS, acting through the Assistant Secretary of ICE, to enter into written agreements with a State or any political subdivision of a State so that qualified officers or employees of the State or subdivision may perform functions of an immigration officer.
