The information collection requirement
is necessary to obtain information on deceased debtors from probate
courts. Probate courts review their records to see if an estate was
established. They provide the name and address of the executor or
lawyer handling the estate. From the information obtained, DFAS
submits a claim against the estate for the amount due the United
States.
