Abstract: The NSDUH (formerly the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse) is a survey of the civilian, noninstitutionalized population of the United States, age 12 and over. The data are used to estimate the prevalence of cigarette, alcohol and illicit drug use, and abuse of licit drugs. Results are used by SAMHSA, ONDCP, and other Federal agencies and other researchers and organizations to establish policy, direct program activities, and better allocate resources.

Short Statement: Currently, there are 79,542 total burden hours in the OMB inventory. SAMHSA is requesting 79,851 burden hours. This adjustment of an increase of 309 burden hours are due to a decline in response rates, which results in the need to contact additional dwelling units to yield the targeted number of completed interviews.
