REPORTING
AFFECTED PUBLIC: FOOD MANUFACTURERS AND DISTRIBUTORS AND WIC AUTHORIZED RETAIL VENDORS
1. Section 246 requires WIC State agencies to authorize eligible foods for their WIC food list. Under these regulations, WIC State agencies must review food products for eligibility in accordance with Federal regulations and State agency policies. FNS manages a central repository of WIC eligible foods, the National Universal Product Code Database (NUPC), with food product information (nutrition facts panel information, ingredients, special processing practices (i.e., Kosher or Halal), etc.). WIC State agencies may choose to use the NUPC database to create an initial list of authorized foods eligible for redemption by WIC Program participants. FNS requests product information from food manufacturers and distributors 4 times per year, on average. FNS estimates that each food manufacturer and distributor will need 9 burden hours per year to report food product information to FNS.
FNS estimates 8,640 burden hours for food manufacturers and distributors under this provision (240 food manufacturers and distributors x 4 time per year = 960 responses x 9 burden hours per year = 8,640 burden hours). This has not changed since the last submission.

FNS estimates 1,680 burden hours for WIC authorized retail vendors under this provision (120 WIC authorized retail vendors x 2 time per year = 240 responses x 7 burden hours per response = 1,680 burden hours). This has not changed since the last submission.
