This quarterly survey collects
information on new businesses primarily to obtain proper industry
classification for use in economic surveys conducted by the U.S.
Census Bureau. This information is used to update the sampling
frame for current business surveys and reduce respondent burden for
the five-year Economic Census, thus ensuring high quality economic
estimates. The survey samples businesses with newly assigned or
reactivated Employer Identification Numbers (EINs). Selected EIN
units are required to report one time only for the survey.
The number of annual responses
for this request has increased to approximately 57,000 from 52,000
in the previous submission in 2015. This is due to a change in our
sample design and industry coverage which is discussed in
Supporting Statement B, Question 1. The result is an increase of
1,081 burden hours annually.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
