Abstract: The study proposed will fill a critical knowledge gap by providing data that links turnout gear use conditions to its resulting performance characteristics. Data collected will be used to provide evidence-based recommendations to support improvements to existing performance, care, and maintenance standards language. Methods to be used to collect data include a retrospective and prospective cohort design to inform laboratory data. Study respondents will be active duty career fire fighters in 3 fire departments.
