Industries that produce and consume
industrial minerals use the 40 forms to report production,
consumption, stocks, and receipts of industrial mineral commodities
(including phosphate rock, sulfur, cement, stone, sand and gravel,
etc.). We compile these data into tables, which are published
monthly, quarterly, semiannually, and annually. The data collected
is used for military and civilian planning, and Federal policy and
economic decisions related to the commodities covered.

Variations can be expected in
the reporting burden for completion of these forms because of the
differences in operation size and accounting systems. The data
sought are those routinely maintained in the course of business.
For some companies with more than one plant, the submission takes
the form of a consolidated report covering all company operations.
This greatly reduces the reporting burden. We estimate that there
will be 17,533 annual responses totaling 12,055 burden hours. This
is a net decrease of 2,520 responses and 1,951 burden hours from
our previous request of 20,053 responses and 14,006 burden hours.
The difference represents an adjustment in estimated resources and
corresponding burden hours based upon mergers, closures, and our
experience in administering this program over the last 3
years.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
