Previous terms continue: OMB is approving this information collection request for a period of three years. Any communications or publications that arise from this collection will include a clear description of the reporting entities (e.g., which states/territories voluntarily participate) and a discussion of how their reporting and monitoring practices may differ. As it is anticipated that HAB-related case definitions, data collection instruments, and protocols will evolve over time through the analysis of data gathered in OHHABS, the agency will submit such changes to OMB via an ICR Revision request. If such updates are within the confines of the general concepts and approaches approved within this OMB clearance (i.e., refinements rather than new concepts) CDC may use a non-substantive change request to submit such changes.

The goal of the One Health Harmful Algal Bloom System (OHHABS) is to collect data on harmful algal blooms (HABs) and human and animal illnesses related to HAB exposures. Data collected in OHHABS will be accessible to state health departments, federal partners and other stakeholders to better characterize HAB events and single human and animal illness related to HAB exposures and to inform future prevention efforts.
