Section 48.5

You must provide each new miner with no less than 40 hours of training [§ 48.5(a)], and give
approximately 8 hours of the training at the minesite.
Coal miners receiving training under this section must participate in the next drill as required in
Sections 75.383(b) or 75.1502(c), as applicable.
Under each subject listed below, you must check all that apply. However, you must select at least

Experienced Miner Training Program - Coal Underground Mines
Section 48.6

An experienced miner must receive and complete training in the program of instruction prescribed in
this section before such miner is assigned to work duties.
Coal miners receiving training under this section must participate in the next drill as required in

Task Training Program - Coal Underground Mines
Section 48.7
The training plan must contain a program for training miners before they are assigned to new work tasks. For the purposes of
new task training, "task" means a work assignment that includes duties of a job that occur on a regular basis and which requires
physical abilities and job knowledge [§ 48.2(f)]. All training and supervised practice and operation required by this section must be
given by a qualified trainer, or a supervisor experienced in the assigned tasks, or other person experienced in the assigned task

[§ 48.7(e)].
The training program includes the following categories of miners:
Miners - Miners assigned to new work tasks as mobile equipment operators, drilling machine operators, haulage
and conveyor systems operators, roof and ground control machine operators, and in blasting operations.

Section 48.7 (a) Miners
Miners assigned to new work tasks as mobile equipment operators, drilling machine
operators, haulage and conveyor systems operators, roof and ground control machine
operators, and in blasting operations [§ 48.7(a)].
 
These miners must not be allowed to perform new tasks without direction and immediate

supervision until they have demonstrated safe work procedures to the operator or the operator's
agent.

Annual Refresher Training Program - Coal Underground Mines
Section 48.8

Each miner must receive a minimum of 8 hours of annual refresher training. However, the time
spent for each course may vary to meet specific needs, such as changes in mining conditions,
accident history or other safety and health problems.

Hazard Training Program - Coal Underground Mines
Section 48.11

Miners or persons who are exposed to mine hazards and are not required to take new miner or
experienced miner training as specified in § 48.2(a)(2) must receive the following training prior to
commencing work on mine property. The training must be given at least once every 12 months.
Miners or persons subject to hazard training must be accompanied at all times while underground
by an experienced miner.
Experienced short-term contract workers, such as drillers or blasters, who received training under
Section 48.6 may receive hazard training in lieu of more experienced miner training for each new
mine employement [§ 48.2(a)(1)].
