Abstract: Underground mine operators are required to submit to MSHA for approval, a plan for the instruction of miners in firefighting and evacuation procedures to be followed in event of an emergency. In addition, fire drills are to be conducted quarterly, equipment tested, and a record kept of the drills and testing results.

Short Statement: Due to a decrease in respondents there is a subsequent decrease in responses, burden hours, and costs. Respondents decreased because the number of mines have decreased. Respondents: Decreased from 262 to 204 Responses: Decreased from 144,427 to 121,486 Burden Hours: Decreased from 24,916 to 19,305 Costs: Increased from $332 to $378 because more mine emergency evacuation and firefighting PI were submitted.
