The School Nutrition and Meal Cost Study-II will be visiting our school tomorrow. The study is for the US Department of Agriculture/Food and Nutrition Service to learn how to improve school meals. A member of the study team may ask you to take part in the study. Information about the study was previously sent to your home. Reminders for students (ELEMENTARY: and parents) are below. As a reminder, all study information will be kept private.
What do I have to do?
The study team will ask you some questions about the foods that you usually eat, including school meals.
The study team will also ask to measure your height and weight. Please avoid hair styles and hairpieces that may affect the height measurements. Wear shoes that can be easily taken off. If possible, dress in layers so heavy outer clothes can be taken off before your weight is measured.
What do I get for participating?
You will get a (ELEMENTARY: $5; MIDDLE/HIGH: $15) gift card if you finish an interview in school. (There may not be time for everyone to take part.)
[ELEMENTARY] What do parents have to do?
The study team will call you in the next few days to ask you some questions. They will ask about what your child ate on the day he or she was interviewed in school.
Your child will bring home a food diary. Please fill out the food diary on the same day your child was interviewed in school. It will help you during your phone interview to remember what your child ate.
Your child will also bring home a food model booklet, measuring cups and spoons, and a ruler. These are to help you estimate the size of the food your child ate. You can keep these.
Am I required to be in the study?
No. You can decide if you want to be in the study or not. Your participation will not affect any benefits you may receive now or in the future.
Have questions about the study?
If you have any questions about the study, you can call (XXX) XXX-XXXX. Or you can ask the study team member in school.
