The National Notifiable Diseases
Surveillance System is the nation's public health surveillance
system used to monitor the occurrence and spread of nationally
notifiable conditions. The NNDSS facilitates the submission and
aggregation of case notification data voluntarily submitted to CDC
from 60 jurisdictions including health departments in every U.S.
state, New York City, Washington DC, 5 U.S. territories, and 3
freely associated states. It is the official source of statistics
in the U.S. for nationally notifiable conditions and CDC is the
sole repository for these national, population-based data. CDC
requests a change to add 97 new disease-specific data elements, for
Plague and Tularemia.
This request for change
includes the addition of 47 data elements for Plague and 50 data
elements for Tularemia. This results in an annual increase of 180
burden hours.
