Operators of container facilities.

What is this collection about?

The Coast Guard inspects containers and cargo within containers to ensure compliance with domestic and international standards. Coast Guard-issued forms provide stakeholders with the results of container examinations.

Title 49 CFR Parts 107-180 & Parts 450-453 are available at— https://www.eCFR.gov, select TITLE 49 – TRANSPORTATION, and follow to the various parts.

When must information be submitted to the Coast Guard?

The information is not submitted to the Coast Guard.

How is the information submitted?

The information is not submitted to the Coast Guard. Rather, Coast Guard-issued forms provide stakeholders with the results of container examinations.

What happens when complete information is received?

If a facility operator receives an Intermodal Container Inspection Report (CG-5577), then they must resolve the deficiencies identified in the report. If a facility operator receives an Intermodal Container Non-Deficiency Inspection Report (CG-5577A), then they should retain the report for their records. If a facility operator receives an Intermodal Container Targeted Inspection Report (CG-5577B), then they must prepare for inspection of the containers listed on the form within the prescribed timeframe.

The Coast Guard estimates that the average burden per response varies per information collection—about 3 minutes per Intermodal Container Targeted Inspection Report (CG-5577B); and 6 minutes per Intermodal Container Inspection Report (CG-5577) or Intermodal Container Non-Deficiency Inspection Report (CG-5577A).
