The Standard requires employers to train workers about the hazards of asbestos, to monitor worker exposure, to provide medical surveillance, and maintain accurate records of worker exposure to asbestos. These records will be used by employers, workers, and the Government to ensure that workers are not harmed by exposure to asbestos in the workplace.

OSHA is requesting an adjustment increase in the burden hours from 1,189 hours to 1,237, a difference of 48 hours. This increase is due to an increase in the number of establishments in shipyards. There was also an increase in the cost under item 13 for the exposure monitoring and medical examinations to the employer (from $43,003 to $44,578, an increase of $1,575).
