The Occupational Employment Statistics
(OES) survey is a Federal/State establishment survey of wage and
salary workers designed to produce data on current detailed
occupational employment and wages for each Metropolitan Statistical
Area and Metropolitan Division as well as by detailed industry
classification. OES survey data assists in the development of
employment and training programs established by the Perkins
Vocational Education Act of 1998 and the Workforce Investment Act
of 1998. Respondents include private establishment, Schools,
Hospitals, State and Local Government.

The total number of responses
and the annual time burden have decreased from the previous Office
of Management and Budget inventory due to a decrease in the OES
sample size and a reduction in the OES response rate from 73% to
70.5%. Small changes within the four Information Collections
(private-voluntary, government-voluntary, private-mandatory, and
government-mandatory) can be attributed to some States moving from
voluntary to mandatory status. The OES survey is voluntary, but
some States require completion of the survey.
