As part of its fishery management
responsibilities, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS)
requires vessels and processors participating in federally managed
groundfish and crab fisheries off Alaska to provide information on
catch, production, effort, and other information necessary for
conservation and management of the fisheries. This action would
renew an existing collection, the Alaska Interagency Electronic
Reporting System (IERS). The IERS is a fisheries data collection
system that enables the management of commercial fisheries off
Alaska and is supported through a partnership among NMFS, Alaska
Department of Fish and Game, and the International Pacific Halibut
Commission. The IERS consists of three main components (eLandings,
seaLandings, and tLandings) and provides the Alaska fishing
industry with a consolidated, electronic means of reporting
commercial fish and shellfish information to multiple management
agencies.
