SSDI recipients receive payments based on their inability to engage in SGA because of a physical or mental condition. If the recipients work, SSA must evaluate and determine if they continue to meet the disability requirements of the law. When an individual is unable to provide earnings information, and SSA does not have access to proof of earnings, we use Form SSA-L725 to request monthly earnings information from the applicant or recipientâs employer. SSA employees send the paper Form SSA-L725 to the employer to complete. SSA employees use the earnings data that the employer provides on the form to determine whether the claimant or beneficiary is engaging in SGA, since work above the SGA level can cause a cessation of disability benefits. While it is mandatory for applicants and beneficiaries to provide earnings information, the collection of this information is voluntary for respondents. The respondents are businesses which employ Social Security disability applicants and beneficiaries.

When we last cleared this IC in 2017, the burden was 100,000 hours. However, we are currently reporting a burden of 113,333 hours. This change stems from an increase in the number of responses from 150,000 to 170,000. There is no change to the burden time per response. Although the number of responses changed, SSA did not take any actions to cause this change. These figures represent current Management Information data.
