This research is in response to the USMC’s request for an independent, academic scientific study to analyze Entry Level Training (ELT) of USMC recruits, and make recommendations for models which integrate genders to the greatest extent possible while continuing to train Marines to established standards of discipline, physical fitness, attention to detail, and camaraderie
This study is in support of USMC fulfilling a Congressional mandate from the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Sec 565 for the service to eliminate gender segregated training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island and MCRD San Diego. Initially, a DoD RCS package was only going to be submitted but after further research, it was determined that an OMB clearance was needed as well. Due to the congressional mandate and that contracts had already been put in place, this required an emergency approval.
