The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) administers the Selective Service System (SSS) records . The SSS records contain both classification records and registration cards of registrants born before January 1, 1960. When registrants or other authorized individuals request information from or copies of SSS records they must provide on forms or letters certain information about the registrant and the nature of the request. Requesters use NA Form 13172, Selective Service System Record Request to obtain information from SSS records stored at NARA facilities.
The small increase in costs comes from an increase in requestors during the past three years, thus raising our annual estimate, and an increase in the cost of postage. We did make changes to the formâs design and arrangement to assist the user in providing more accurate and complete information, to streamline the ability for requesters who are the subject of the requested record to receive unredacted copies, and to enable us to provide electronic responses and services, which may have been part of the cause for the increase in requests.
Other than adjustments related to spacing, the two changes are; the addition of a Request Purpose field, and the addition of an email address field. The purpose of these changes are to ensure the receiving technician understands the reasoning behind the request being made and to allow for an increase in e-billing and electronic delivery of copies requested.
