The Benchmark Survey of Foreign Direct
Investment in the United States obtains universe data on the
financial and operating characteristics of U.S. affiliates of
foreign companies, and on positions and transactions between U.S.
affiliates and their foreign parent groups. These data are needed
to measure the size and economic significance of foreign direct
investment in the United States, to measure changes in such
investment, and to assess its impact on the U.S. economy.
BEA proposes to add, delete,
and modify some items on the benchmark survey forms. Most of the
additions are proposed in response to suggestions from data users
to provide more information about foreign direct investment in the
United States. These changes had a marginal impact on the estimated
respondent burden. The increase in the estimated respondent burden
is primarily due to an increase in the number of foreign-owned
companies.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
