Abstract: Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) review cases of pregnancy-associated deaths in their jurisdiction to determine and understand pregnancy-relatedness. MMRIA is a comprehensive and standardized data collection system for abstracting data from clinical and nonclinical sources and documenting MMRC decisions. MMRIA will provide comprehensive, timely, and accurate data surrounding these deaths to inform future prevention efforts. For this request, CDC is seeking a revision that includes an increase in the number of funding recipients and an increase in the estimated number of pregnancy-associated deaths for which data is abstracted per jurisdiction.

Short Statement: Burden increase is due to 1) an increase in the number of funding recipients that are required to use the MMRIA system, 2) an increase in the estimated number of pregnancy-associated deaths for which data is abstracted per jurisdiction, 3) application of processes that reduce the per case burden for some jurisdictions. These changes each impact the burden resulting in an overall increase to the estimated burden from 11,550 (last approval) to 33,482 for a total increase of 21,932 hours.
