Abstract: Registered apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training and related instruction in which apprentices learn the practical and theoretical aspects of a highly skilled occupation and earn a competitive wage that increases as they acquire workplace-relevant skills and gain proficiency in the occupation. Registered apprenticeship programs are sponsored voluntarily by individual employers, employer associations, or joint apprenticeship training committees that partner with organized labor and with employers.
