The Application for Citizenship and Issuance of Certificate Under Section 322 (N-600K) is used to obtain a
Certificate of Citizenship for a U.S. citizen child who regularly resides outside of the United States.
Use this form to request U.S. citizenship and issuance of a Certificate of Citizenship under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) section 322 for a child who resides outside of

Eligibility
A child may obtain U.S. citizenship if he or she meets all the following criteria to be eligible for citizenship under
INA section 322:
Note: You must meet all requirements, provide all documentation, and the child must appear before USCIS for an interview and take the Oath of Allegiance (if applicable) before the
child turns 18 years of age.
1. The child is not married;
2. USCIS must administer the Oath of Allegiance to the child before reaching 18 years of age;
3. The child regularly resides outside the United States;
4. In the legal and physical custody of the U.S. citizen parent;
5. The child's U.S. citizen parent has been physically present in the United States for a period or periods totaling
at least five years, at least two of which were after 14 years of age. If the U.S. citizen parent does not meet this
requirement, the U.S. citizen parent's own U.S. citizen parent (grandparent) has to have been physically present in
the United States for a period or periods totaling at least five years, at least two of which were after 14 years of
age.
In cases where the U.S. citizen parent died in the preceding five years, and the N-600K has been properly filed on
behalf of the child by the U.S. citizen grandparent or by the U.S. citizen legal guardian, the child does NOT have
to be residing in the legal and physical custody of the person as long as the person who has legal and physical
custody of the child does not object to the N-600K; and
6. The child is temporarily present in the United States at the time of interview in a lawful status pursuant to a
lawful admission.

3. The child has one of the following relationships to a U.S. citizen parent:
• The biological child of a U.S. citizen parent who is also their legal parent. If the U.S. citizen parent is the child’s biological father, you will generally have to establish that the child
was born in wedlock or legitimated;
• The child of a non-genetic gestational U.S. citizen parent (person who carried and gave birth to the child) who is also the child’s legal parent;
• The child of a U.S. citizen parent who was married to the child’s genetic or gestational parent at the time of the child’s birth (even if no genetic or gestational relationship exists
with the U.S. citizen parent) and both of the child’s parents are also the child’s legal parents; or

Note: Stepchildren are not eligible for citizenship through a U.S. citizen stepparent, unless the U.S. citizen stepparent adopted the stepchild and the stepchild meets the
requirements applicable to adopted children.
4. The child resides outside the United States;
5. The child is in the legal and physical custody of the U.S. citizen parent;
[Eligibility continued]
Note: In cases where the U.S. citizen parent died in the last five years, the child does NOT have to be residing in the legal and physical custody of the person filing the application, as
long as the person who has legal and physical custody of the child does not object to the Form N-600K.
6. The child's U.S. citizen parent has been physically present in the United States for a period or periods totaling at least five years, at least two of which were after 14 years of age. If

States for a period or periods totaling at least five years, at least two of which were after 14 years of age; and
7. The child is temporarily present in the United States at the time of approval of the application in a lawful status pursuant to a lawful admission.

Provide the name of the child’s country of citizenship or nationality before the child becomes a
U.S. citizen. If the child is a citizen or national of more than one country, provide the name of the country
that issued the latest passport.
The child's A-Number is located on their Permanent Resident Card
(formerly known as the Alien Registration Card or referred to as the Green
Card), and consists of a 7, 8, or 9-digit number.
Note: If the country no longer exists or the child is stateless, provide the name of the foreign
country where the child was last a citizen or national, if any.
Provide a 7, 8, or 9-digit number. If your A-Number is fewer than 9 digits,
the system will automatically add zero(s) after the "A" and before the first
digit so there is a total of 9 digits, for example: A-001234567.
