Welcome and Introduction
Hello Far Eastside Neighborhood!

IRB: #14887 Greening Urban Neighborhoods from the Ground Up: Overcoming Barriers
to Tree Planting with Community-based Interventions.

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and Indiana University have partnered with the Community
Alliance of the Far Eastside, community stakeholders, and residents to understand your
environmental experiences within the Far Eastside.

We are looking for residents to share their opinions about trees in their neighborhood
and around their homes. Your answers will be used to help create an environmental
action plan for your neighborhood that will support your environmental and beautification
goals. Please view the survey below and answer all questions to the best of your ability.

This is a pre-survey that will be followed up in about six months with a post-survey to
see if any of your opinions have changed since we have begun our project in your
neighborhood. Each survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Part of our project will also include the installation of air quality and temperature sensors
in your neighborhood. We will place four sensors of each type in places offered by
volunteers living in your neighborhood. Two sensors of each type will be in areas with
lots of trees, and two will be placed in areas with very few trees. The sensors will
automatically upload data on air temperature and amount of air pollution. This data will
be publicly accessible on the PurpleAir website and on the Indiana University Green City
Mapper, but will not be connected with anyone’s names or identities.

Participation is completely voluntary. The information you provide will be accessed by
research staff and securely stored. We will not share your data with anybody not working
on our project. Your responses will not be connected to you in any reports or
publications.

If you have any questions about this study, please contact Iasia Cheers at Keep
Indianapolis Beautiful at [email protected] or 317-605-1240. Thank you!

For questions about your rights as a research participant, to discuss problems,
complaints, or concerns about a research study, or to obtain information or to offer input,

This collection of information is approved by OMB under the Paperwork Reduction Act,
44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq. (OMB Control No. 2030-0051). Responses to this collection of
information are voluntary. An agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not
required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid
OMB control number. The public reporting and recordkeeping burden for this collection
of information is estimated to 10 minutes per response. Send comments on the
Agency’s need for this information, the accuracy of the provided burden estimates and
any suggested methods for minimizing respondent burden to the Regulatory Support
Division Director, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (2821T), 1200 Pennsylvania

Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20460. Include the OMB control number in any
correspondence. Do not send the completed form to this address.
