Homeowner Perceptions, Barriers, and Intentions to Install a Living Shoreline
Researcher: Dr. Blake Simmons, Tampa Bay Estuary Program

You are invited to complete an interview about your perceptions of living shorelines.
Purpose
The purpose of this research is to collect crowdsourced data from homeowners in the Don CeSar neighborhood about
their opinions of living shorelines and their interest in installing living shorelines on their property. The results will be used
to identify key barriers, motivations, and other important factors that influence the adoption of living shorelines.
What is involved?
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete an interview consisting of questions and open discussions. This
will take about 30-60 minutes depending upon how much you would like to discuss your answers with the interviewer.
After this is completed, nothing more is required.
Privacy and confidentiality
Your answers will be completely confidential. In order to accurately note your discussions, we would like to record the
interview. This audio recording will be transcribed solely by the interviewer within 48 hours and not shared with any other
person or party. After 48 hours, this recording will be permanently erased. If you do not consent to this recording, you may
do so at no penalty to you. You may still participate in the interview without it being recorded if you prefer. All data is
collected and stored in a way that can’t identify you.
Is there likely to be a benefit to me?
We plan to use this data to better understand what is important to homeowners when considering installing a living
shoreline on their property. We can’t guarantee that you get any direct benefit, but the results of this research will help us
design better programs to increase shoreline enhancements across Tampa Bay.
Participation in this research is entirely voluntary. You can stop at any time without explanation. There will be no
penalties or loss of benefits to you if you do not participate or decide to stop once you start.

This collection of information is approved by OMB under the Paperwork Reduction Act, 44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq. (OMB
Control No. 2030-0051). Responses to this collection of information are voluntary. An agency may not conduct or sponsor,
and a person is not required to respond to, a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control
number. The public reporting and recordkeeping burden for this collection of information is estimated to range from 30 to
60 minutes per response. Send comments on the Agency’s need for this information, the accuracy of the provided burden
