10 CFR part 72 establishes mandatory requirements, procedures, and criteria for the issuance of licenses to receive, transfer, and possess power reactor spent fuel and other radioactive materials associated with spent fuel storage in an ISFSI, as well as requirements for the issuance of licenses to the Department of Energy to receive, transfer, package, and possess power reactor spent fuel and high-level radioactive waste, and other associated radioactive materials in an MRS. The information in the applications, reports, and records is used by NRC to make licensing and other regulatory determinations.
The total annual burden has decreased by 1,849 hours. The reporting burden decreased by a net 191 hours due to changes in the estimated number of respondents and the correction of a calculation error in the current clearance. The recordkeeping burden decreased by 1,688 hours. The decrease was primarily due to a revised estimate in the burden per response for 10 CFR 72.234(d). It was previously 120 hours per response and is now 60 hours per response. That decrease in burden was partially offset by increases in burden due to an increase in the estimated number of recordkeepers and the addition of the burden for 10 CFR 72.44(e) which was left out of the current clearance. There was a slight increase in the 3rd party disclosure burden due to the increase in respondents. The NRCâs fee rate also changed since the last clearance period, from $278 to $300 per hour.
