The ACE Investigations focus on performing rapid epidemiological assessments to assist state, regional, local, or tribal health departments (the requesting agencies) to respond to or prepare for acute chemical releases. States use the information to 1. Characterize exposure and acute health effects of respondents exposed, 2. Identify needs (i.e. medical and basic) of those exposed during the releases to aid in planning interventions in the community, 3. Assess the impact of the incidents on health services use and share lessons learned for use in planning for chemical incidents.

Based on CDC stakeholdersâ feedback, ATSDR is proposing to increase the utility of the ACE toolkit by expanding the ACE general survey to include new questions and modules, mainly for maternal and child health, responder health, One health (pets and livestock), and functional disability. Additionally with the recognition of the importance of qualitative surveys, we have developed qualitative questions to be interspersed in the general survey and a separated elective module for people wanting to provide a more in-depth response to gain more insights on the effects of these incidents. These changes result in a net annual increase of 1,580 responses and 690 burden hours per year over the next three years.
