Abstract: The BE-11, Annual Survey of U.S. Direct Investment Abroad will obtain annual sample data on the finances and operations of U.S. multinational enterprises, for both their U.S. and foreign operations. The data are needed to measure the size and economic significance of U.S. direct investment abroad, measure changes in such investment, and assess its impact on the U.S. and foreign economies. The data are used primarily to compile and improve the U.S. International and National Income and Product Accounts and to support U.S. government policy on direct investment. The survey is authorized by the International Investment and Trade in Services Survey Act.

Short Statement: This request is for a reinstatement without substantive change of a previously approved collection. This survey was discontinued in 2024 because it was replaced by the Benchmark Survey of U.S. Direct Investment Abroad (0608-0049). The decrease in the estimated respondent burden is due to a change in the number of U.S. and foreign entities that meet the proposed reporting requirements for the 2025 BE-11 annual survey.
