This is a request for an extension without change of the reporting and recordkeeping associated with this information collection. This collection is used to gather information available to participating institutions of higher education (IHE) which is required to fully calculate eligibility for title IV student financial aid for applicants under the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA). The Department is updating to remove 200 hours from the total burden calculation. There is no other change to the collection.
Pursuant to Sec 483(a)(2)(F) of the HEA, the Department of Education (the Department) is required to collect an applicantâs income earned under the FWS program from the IHE participating in the FWS program, and may not add additional questions to the FAFSA form to obtain this information from the FAFSA applicant.
US Code:
20 USC 483
Name of Law: Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended
PL: Pub.L. 116 - 260 483(a)2.F Name of Law: FAFSA Simplification Act
In 2023, the Department calculated an initial burden for institutions that reflected 200 additional hours to review requirements, update financial aid information systems, and administer the new FWS wage data reporting requirements, as implemented by the FAFSA Simplification Act amendments to the HEA. With this extension we are now removing those additional hours from the calculation as the reporting requirements have been in effect and unchanged since 2024.
