PUBLIC SUBMISSION As of: 6/22/26, 8:31 AM Received: June 20, 2026 Status: Posted Posted: June 22, 2026 Tracking No. mqm-mctg-m41e Comments Due: June 26, 2026 Submission Type: Web Docket: PTO-P-2026-0331 0651-0089 DOCX Submission Requirements Comment On: PTO-P-2026-0331-0001 Agency Information Collection Activities; Proposals, Submissions, and Approvals: DOCX Submission Requirements Document: PTO-P-2026-0331-0002 Comment by David Rocha Submitter Information Name: David Rocha Address: San Antonio, TX, 78256 Email: [email protected] General Comment The USPTO will need to move from DOCX to an API based experience. Computable knowledge assets should not be trapped inside documents, especially if the USPTO would want a real time information experience. The USPTO needs to accelerate towards an API based system for patent applications that would allow patent management software, IP systems, law firm platforms, and the USPTO towards API exchange on the real time status of the patent applications, such as validation errors, real time status updates, etc. Federated digital identity could be done on the applicant/inventors side, such as using CLEAR, login.gov, ID.me, as well as organizational identity by using vLEI, GLEIF via the GLEIF identity ecosystem. The USPTO will need to think about the movement towards structured, computable patent knowledge assets. In addition, the USPTO will need to consider a national framework for computable knowledge assets.
