RECRUITMENT MATERIALS FOR YOUTH FOCUS GROUPS, COMMUNITY SETTINGS STUDY

[Provider organization name] is working with Mathematica, an independent research organization, to ask some youth participants in [SRAE program name] for their feedback on sexual risk avoidance education programming provided in [name of community setting site]. In particular, they would like to hear more about how well your child (or a child you for whom you are the guardian or legally authorized representative) felt the programming met their needs and any suggestions for improvement your child may have. The study and programming are funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  The study will describe SRAE programming and share promising practices and strategies to address challenges.
We are inviting your child to participate in a 40-minute focus group with other youth that participated in [SRAE program name]. The focus group will occur in person at [location] at [date and time].  
Your child will receive a $40 gift card for participating in the focus group. Their feedback will help us improve programming for youth across the country. 
I’ve attached more information about the focus group.

Opportunity for Your Child to Give Feedback on Sexual Risk Avoidance Education programming   
Across the country, organizations provide adolescent pregnancy prevention programming under the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). 
Mathematica, an independent research organization, is looking for youth that have participated in SRAE programming at [name of community setting site] to join a focus group on the SRAE programming. The focus group is part of a larger study on SRAE programming that Mathematica is conducting under contract to HHS. The study will describe SRAE programming and share promising practices and strategies to address challenges. The study team would like to hear directly from youth that participated in the programming to understand their experiences, feedback, and suggestions. The study’s findings may help improve future programming for youth in these settings across the country.
What is the purpose of the focus group?
The focus group is a chance for youth to share their feedback on the SRAE programming at [name of community setting site] provided by [provider organization name]. The focus group will also ask for any suggestions about SRAE programming for the future. The focus group will not ask about your child’s behaviors. 
The Mathematica team will use the information from the focus group to write a summary report. Your child will not be mentioned by name in any reporting. 
Who can participate? 
Any youth that has participated in SRAE programming at [name of community setting site] provided by [provider organization name] is eligible. Before they participate, each youth under age 18 will need to have a signed consent form from their parents,  guardians, or legally authorized representatives. Up to 8 youth will participate in the focus group at [name of community setting site]. 
What will my child need to do if they participate? 
Your child (or a child that you are the guardian or legally authorized representative for) will need to attend the in-person focus group. The focus group will take about 40 minutes, and the Mathematica team will record the discussion. 
The Mathematica team will not connect any information shared in the focus group to any person by name in any reporting. The Mathematica team will save any information from the focus groups in secure files to protect your child’s privacy and will delete all information from the focus group once the study is complete. What will my child get out of participating?  
Your child will receive a $40 gift card after completing the focus group. The Mathematica team and HHS will use their feedback to improve SRAE programming across the country.
