Abstract: The VPP recognizes employers and workers in the private industry and federal agencies who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintain injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industries. In VPP, management, labor, and OSHA work cooperatively and proactively to prevent fatalities, injuries, and illnesses through a system focused on; hazard prevention and control; worksite analysis; training; and management commitment and worker involvement. The OSHA Safety Champions Program provides interested employers and workers the opportunity to gain assistance in improving their safety and health management systems.

Short Statement: OSHA is requesting a program change decrease of 16,217 burden hours from 69,657 to 53,440 hours. The program change is primarily due to rebranding the name of the OSHA Challenge Program to OSHA Safety Champions Program and the removal of the OF-612 (Optional Application for Federal Employment) form. Also, there was a decrease in the number of estimated VPP applicants based on the trend in data.
