Abstract: The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) seeks approval to: recruit a non-random (purposively) selected set of states and randomly selected set of county child welfare agencies (CWAs) within those states to participate in the National and State Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being (NSSCAW); sample cases from participating states and CWAs who agree to participate in NSSCAW; and collect survey data from sampled children and their caregivers. NSSCAW prioritizes questions that can inform states and their partners about how to better support the health and well-being of children and families, prevent the need for foster care, and promote the recruitment and retention of safe and stable foster homes. NSSCAW is the only source of firsthand information about the well-being and service needs of children and families who come to the attention of the CWS, including foster and kin caregivers.
