This collection of information is mandatory, collected as needed, and is associated with FRA's rule 49 CFR part 229, subpart D. It involves both reporting and recordkeeping requirements. FRA uses this collection of information to ensure railroads operate locomotives that meet the prescribed minimum performance standards and design load requirements for newly manufactured and re-manufactured locomotives. Without this collection of information, FRA would be unable to review and evaluate changes and enhancements to the crashworthiness of freight locomotives.
