Commission regulation 1.40 requires that members of an exchange and futures commission merchants provide, upon request, copies of any report published concerning crop or market information affecting the price of any commodity. Economists, as well as Surveillance and Market Analysts, use this information to fulfill their market function or mandate of providing reports to Congress and/or other government officials in the investigation of potential price manipulation. Additionally, the data may be used to support various market studies, research projects, and reports from Commission Economists and Analysts. Thus, adequate surveillance and analysis of market activity could not be performed without this information.
