Transition from TTY to Real-Time Text Technology, CG Docket No. 16-145; GN Docket No. 15-178

On December 15, 2016, the Commission adopted the RTT Order to facilitate an effective and seamless transition from TTY technology to real-time text (RTT) over wireless IP-based networks and services. Specifically, the Commission amended its rules governing the obligations of wireless providers and manufacturers to support TTY technology to permit such providers and manufacturers to provide support for RTT over wireless IP-based networks in lieu of continuing to support TTY technology. The Commission submits this revised information collection to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for the information collection requirements under OMB Control Number 3060-1248 related to the transition from text telephone (TTY) technology to support for real-time text (RTT).
