Abstract: IN DECEMBER 1976 CDC INITIATED A COOPERATIVE PROGRAM WITH THE END-STAT RENAL-DISEASE PROGRAM (ESRD) IN HCFA TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT TO WHICH VIRAL HEPATITIS IS A HEALTH PROBLEM IN THE DIALYSIS TREATMENT FACILITI AND TO DEVELOP GUIDELINES FOR OPERATING PROCEDURES WHICH RESULT IN THE ELIMINATION OR REDUCTION OF THIS DISEASE.
