This clearance
is to allow the ICC to procede in its rulemaking to consider
changes to record retention requirements. The ICC should ensure
that record retention rules comply with OMB guidelines. OMB has
issued a proposed rule 47 FR , which will supercede OMB Circulars
A-40 when finalized. Section 1320.6(f) has proposed guidelines on
record retention.

THE RECORDS RETENTION SCHEDULE IS THE
PRESCRIBED LENGTH OF TIME THAT CARRIERS MUST MAINTAIN THEIR RECORDS
FOR THE ICC. THIS RETENTION SCHEDULE ENSURES THAT CARRIERS CAN
PRODUCE THE NECESSARY RECORDS TO VALIDATE FINANCIAL, OPERATING, AND
MAINTENANCE REPORTS PROVIDED TO THE ICC AS PRESCRIBED IN 49 C.F.R.
1220.
