Abstract: THIS SURVEY IS THE ONLY SOURCE OF COMPREHENSIVE INDUSTRY DATA ON POLLUTION ABATEMENT CAPITAL EXPENDITURES, OPERATING COSTS, AND COSTS RECOVERED. AMONG THE MANY DATA USERS IS THE BUREAU OF ECONOMIC ANALYS FOR THE NATIONAL INCOME ACCOUNTS. THEY ARE USED TO MEASURE THAT SHARE OF CAPITAL STOCKS AVAILABLE FOR INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION AND MODERNIZATION OF THE GNP, TO DETERMINE CAPITAL FLOWS, AND TO MEASURE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF THE TONNAGES OF POLLUTANTS ABATED
