Abstract: THE CENSUS BUREAU MUST COLLECT TAX AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL REVENUE DATA FROM ALL LOCAL GENERAL PURPOSE GOVERNMENTS. IT USES THIS INFORMATION TO PUBLISH BENCHMARK STATISTICS ON GOVERNMENTAL FINANCE AND TO COMPLY WITH COMMITMENTS TO THE DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY. TREASURY USES THIS INFORMATION IN CALCULATING REVENUE SHARING ENTITLEMENTS AND TO ANALYZE CONFORMANCE TO THE REVENUE SHARING ACT (31 U.S.C. 6701 - 6724).
