CARDIOVASCULA DISEASE MORTALITY AND SEVERAL RISK FACTORS, INCLUDING OBESITY, ARE HIGHER IN BLACK WOMEN THAN WHITE WOMEN. BLACK-WHITE DIFFERENCES IN OBESITY OCCUR IN YOUNG GIRLS. THIS 5-YEAR STUDY OF 1,100 BLACK AND 1,100 WHITE GIRLS, INITIALLY AGE 9-10, WILL HELP IDENTIFY DIETARY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, BIOCHEMICAL AND PSYCHOSOCIAL FACTORS THAT MIGHT EXPLAIN SUCH DIFFERENCES.
