Terms of Clearance: THIS SURVEY IS APPROVED UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: 1) THE SURVEY METHODOLOGY AND/OR THE ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS SHOULD ENABLE THE SELF-REPORTED RESPONDENT INFORMATION TO BE LINKED TO THE VOLUME PURCHASING DATA OR RECOGNIZE THIS LIMITATION. 2) TWO QUESTIONS WILL BE ADDED TO THE RESPONDENT CHARACTERISTIC SECTIO ONE ASKING WHETHER THE RESPONDENT IS CURRENTLY EMPLOYED AND THE OTHER ASKING INTO WHAT RANGE THEIR INCOME WOULD FALL. 3) A DISCUSSION OF THE PARELLEL ANALYSIS OF FOOD PURCHASING PATTERNS OF ALL FOOD ITEMS AND ITS USE IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE SURVEY RESULTS WILL BE ADDED TO THE JUSTIFICATION FOR THE SURVEY. 4) THE SURVEY RESULTS WILL BE USED TO ASSESS STORE INTERVENTION AND ITS EFFECTS ON PURCHASING PATTERNS, NOT AS DATA TO BE GENERALIZED TO A PARTICULAR POPULATION.

Abstract: IN 1985, IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT 930,000 AMERICANS WOULD DEVELOP CANCER AND 462,000 AMERICANS WOULD DIE OF THE DISEASE WITHIN THE YEAR. THIS SURVEY OF 3,000 GIAN FOOD, INC. CONSUMERS ABOUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND SELF-REPORTED DIETARY PRACTICES WILL ENABLE NCI TO REDIRECT ITS PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM AND THUS FURTHER REDUCE CANCER RELATED MORBIDITY AND MOTALITY.
