Abstract: SECTION 516 OF P.L. 95-87 PROVIDES THAT PERMITTERS CONDUCTING SURFACE COAL MINING OPERATIONS WIT UNDERGROUND MINE ACTIVITIES SHALL MEET APPLICABLE PERFORMANCE STANDARD OF THE ACT. THIS INFORMATION IS USED BY THE REGULATORY AUTHORITY IN MONITORING AND INSPECTING UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE CONDUCTED IN A MANNER WHICH PRESERVES AND ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTAL AND OTHER VALUES OF THE ACT.
