Abstract: CHIEF ENGINEERS OF SHIPS MAKE THE REQUIRED ENTRY IN THE OIL RECORD BOOK WHEN OPERATIONS ARE PERFORMED AS PRESCRIBED BY MARPOL 73/78. THIS INFORMATION WILL BE UTILIZED BY COAST GUARD PERSONNEL TO IDENTIFY THAT DISCHARGES OF OIL ARE DONE IN COMPLIANCE WITH MARPOL 73/78 AND THE ACT TO PREVENT POLLUTION FROM SHIPS. THIS IS NECESSARY FOR THE COAST GUARD TO MEET ITS STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS.
