Abstract: SURVEY PROVIDES DATA ON GOVERNMENT EMPLOYMENT AND PAYROLLS BY STATE, TYPE OF GOVERNMENT AND GOVERNMENTAL FUNCTIONS. DATA ARE PRIMARILY COLLECTED BY MAIL CANVASS. RESULTS ARE USED FOR OTHER FEDERAL STATISTICAL PROGRAMS (COMPUTATION O GNP, PERSONAL INCOMES, ETC.), FOR DETERMINING FEDERAL GRANT ALLOCATION FOR LEGISLATIVE RESEARCH, AND FOR GENERAL STATISTICAL PURPOSES.
