Terms of Clearance: OMB disapproves this proposed revision of the Guaranteed Student Loan Tape Dump. The currently approved information collection package under the same OMB number, "GSL Tape Dump Procedures and Plus/SLS Loan Tape Dump Procedures," remains approved through 7/31/91. A working group in the Department of Education will soon submit recommendations regarding information collections that should have a significant impact on the categories of information gathered through t Tape Dump process. OMB asks ED to consider these recommendations in resubmitting the revision for approval. Theis resubmission should com no later than May 1, 1991, which will insure that the current approval of this package does not expire before OMB acts on the revision.

Abstract: STATE AND PRIVATE, NONPROFIT GUARANTEE AGENCIES PROVIDE ED, VIA MAGNETIC TAP BORROWER SPECIFIC DATA ON THE GSL AND PLUS PROGRAMS. THESE DATA ARE USED TO DESCRIBE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF BORROWERS, TO ASSESS THE IMPACT OF VARIOUS LEGISLATIVE, REGULATORY, AND BUDGETARY PROPOSALS, AN TO MONITOR BORROWER FRAUD AND ABUSE.
