Abstract: CONGRESS MANDATED THE COLLECTION OF NATIONAL ASSESSMENT SURVEY DATA. DEVELOPMENT OF BACKGROUND QUESTIONS AND EXERCISES, AS WELL AS FIELD TESTING OF ITEMS FOR THE 1993-94 ASSESSMENTS IN READING, MATHEMATICS, HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY, AND SCIENCE WILL OCCUR DURING THE 1992-93 SCHOOL YEAR.
