Terms of Clearance: In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act and 5 CFR 1320, this information collection has been approved for three months. Upon resubmission the agency shall provide a more detailed and improved justification statement. For example, this submission lacks the repor ing requirements and estimate of burden associated with the prior labe approval process as it applies to nutrition labeling. If the agency does not believe that thi is covered, they shall describe why not. In addition, other associated requirements on firms are not described suc as the burden associated with the requirement that all plants have PQC programs. Since we understand that many firms have voluntarily sub- mitted their labels for approval already, FSIS should include a descri tion of the status of the reviews by FSIS and any associated lessons learned during this process. Also, since we are aware of a significan effort to set up an electronic system to aid in the review of labels, seems appropriate that a description be provided as it relates to the review of nutrition labels. A summary of the public comments received concerning the burden of the nutrition labeling process should be in- cluded along with the names and phone numbers of persons in the public who have been contacted by FSIS as required by instructions to the SF- 83.
