In particular, CDC agreed to add a non-fatigued comparison group to the clinical evaluation portion, delete duplicative questions between the cross-sectional telephone surveys and the self- administered questionnaires for clinical evaluation, and withdraw the school-based survey of adolescents.

CDC has been involved in the study of CFS since the mid-1980s. Each year since 1987, Congress has provided CDC with funding and some direction for CFS surveillance, outreach, and education. Between 1989 and 1993, CDC conducted the first population-based surveillance of CFS in San Francisco. This proposed study extends CDC's research by obtaining population-based estimates in adults and adolescents and information on other fatiguing illnesses.
